FOE now is offering various programs for international students. There are programs for those who are fluent in Chinese as well as programs oriented for those who are English speakers. International students are encouraged to pick the program that fits their need best.

The international master’s program and Ph. D. program in Educational Leadership and Policy (Comparative Education) are two highlighted programs offered in English. They have attracted more than 80 international students and provided them with a good chance to swim in the ocean of knowledge and understand Chinese culture at the same time.

FOE is also dedicated to increasing the opportunities of international exchange and cooperation in each discipline in the field of education. During the past 5 years, each institute of FOE has built a broad international academic platform and developed long-term scholarly exchanges and collaborative research with universities and research institutions in U.S.A., Germany, Australia, Canada, Holland, Britain, and Japan. It has signed multilateral and bilateral cooperative agreements with 32 foreign universities. More than 160 world famous scholars have come to FOE’s research centers to conduct joint studies and to lecture. At the same time, scholars of FOE have visited universities and research institutions overseas about 600 times to conduct advanced studies and attend international conferences. More than ten faculty members have given lectures in foreign universities or speeches at important international academic conferences. More than 120 academic papers in English and Japanese have been published in influential international academic journals, and numerous teaching materials have been developed collaboratively with foreign scholars.

In 2013, International Exchange and Cooperation of FOE continued to be active and made new progress in many aspects. In April, taking the opportunity of AERA conference, FOE sponsored 11 faculty members to attend the conference and give lectures at the conference so as to promote academic achievements of FOE faculty. FOE delegation held oversea reception as well during the conference. In May, FOE delegation visited Waseda University, Tohoku University and Kyoto University in Japan and reached a consensus on exchange and cooperation with these universities. 5 international conferences were held in 2013, among which 2 large conferences: '1st International Conference on Elementary Education' and 'International Conference on Access Policy of Higher Education' were hosted by FOE directly. The 7th annual conferenceof 'International Alliance of Leading Educational Institutes' was successfully held, and on the efforts of FOE, IALEI members reached agreements on the developing objectives and agreed to rename IALEI to INEI (International Network of Educational Institution).

Making use of all kinds of projects, FOE continued to invite world-renowned educational scholars to give lectures and do short-term teaching at FOE.Prof.AstukoShimbo from Waseda University in Japan and Prof. Tierney from University of Sydney in Australia were awarded visiting professors of BNU. Hundreds foreign renowned scholars such as Prof. Apple from University of Wisconsin Madison in U.S., Prof. Pinar from University of British Columbia in Canada, Prof.Hachiro Iwai from Kyoto University in Japan, and Prof. Tierney gave hundreds of academic lectures and taught courses so as to broaden international academic vision of students. FOE cooperated with University of Sydney on research projects innovatively, designating faculty from both sides to collaboratively engaged in 8 projects selected from 12 projects, which was called 'twinning research'. Up to now, the research has been going smoothly. Comparative education branch of Chinese Society of Education successfully restarted activities in World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES). Prof. Wang Yingjie was elected vice-chairman of WCCES. With the efforts of Prof. Wang, BNU will be the host of the 16th World Congress of Comparative Education in 2016. Degree program on early childhood education cooperated by FOE and KLC School of Education in Singapore was approved again by China Ministry of Education. International exchange of students was conducted vigorously. FOE hosted doctoral forum, collaborating with Hiroshima University, Kyoto University in Japan, Queensland University of Technology in Australia. FOE selected and sent students to Taiwan to do internship. Up till now, 25 graduates and 16 doctoral candidates have been to world-class universities overseas for degree study or joint training.
